Corfu Country House - Five bedrooms (sleeps 6-10)
This delightful Venetian farmhouse, built in 1782, commands
a spectacular view over the Corfu Channel to the mainland.
For many generations this has been a family country house where
they could relax and escape the pressures of town - today, this
is now the pleasure of holiday visitors. From the balcony along
the front of the house, enjoy the early morning sunrise over the
hills of Epirus, or just relax and experience the ever changing
light on the sea, with the bell-tower of the family’s private
chapel in the foreground.
The house is large and comfortable rather than grand, filled
with light and opening out on to the wide balcony with its
spectacular sea view. The cool spacious rooms contain
mementoes of the history of the villa, reflecting not only
the Venetian influence, but also the time the family spent
abroad in times gone by, their love of things English, and
pride in their Greek heritage. It is not a museum however,
but a family home, unobtrusively modernised to make it
comfortable for 21st century living.
The property is approximately 12 kms south of Corfu town, just
20 minutes away by car. There is also a regular bus service to
the bottom of the road - so well situated for exploring the island,
either by car, bus, boat or on foot. The house is a 10 minute walk
from the village of Benitses, where there is a small supermarket
and many bars and restaurants - some of the best on the island.
